Women in the Men’s Room

I can’t believe I’m writing about this. I’m linking to Jack’s Shack.  If you’re sensitive to scatological things (many of us are) then beware.

Just when I thought we had called a truce–we’ve argued in the past about whether or not the default position of a toilet seat should be up or down– Jack writes about a mother in the men’s room.

We’re all on the predator alert, trying to protect young people.  There’s really quite a bit to be worried about.  The thinking that’s relevant to this post is that child molesters might be waiting for children to visit bathrooms unattended.   Thus moms are reluctant to send their boys into the men’s room alone. Not without a panic button. It’s the only reason to take a guy shopping, is the truth. So we face this decision– do we take the little fella’ in with us to the ladies room? Or go in with him to where the boys are?.

We’re all about empathy on this blog, so I empathize with Jack’s message– if he wants spectators he’ll take his business to the park. And I get it why he wouldn’t want to answer, “Is anyone in there?” It’s not what you want to do, shout out.

But if he doesn’t answer, and he surprises her while she’s waiting patiently, what’s the point of that? Who needs to play Boo! in a smelly restroom?

I humbly suggest, it is a territorial thing, wanting to surprise an unsuspecting female who is visiting the men’s room with her child, knowing she’s in there thinking she’s alone. The surprise says, Stay out of my cave, woman!

So I’m going to suggest that we do, that we stay out. And when we see a little guy in the ladies room? Try our best to be cordial. Show a man how to be a woman.
